Heisman Trophy Trust doubles scholarship amounts to further support college education for student-athletes
NEW YORK – The Heisman Trophy Trust opened applications Monday, August 23 for the 2021 Heisman High School Scholarship Program, offered by Acceptance Insurance. The program honors hundreds of the nation’s most accomplished and community-minded high school athletes each year. This year, the college’s scholarship amounts were doubled, increasing support for each student’s athletic education.
“We would like to thank our partners at Acceptance Insurance for sponsoring this massive program that expands Heisman’s standing to the nation’s high school seniors,” said Michael Commerford, President of Heisman Trust. “We are very excited to announce the doubling of scholarship amounts this year. We look forward to honoring and rewarding the most deserving and community-minded research athletes with additional funds to help offset college tuition.”
The Heisman High School Scholarship Program will recognize the winner from each high school in the country in which students participate in the program by application. The highest male and female applicants from each state will be awarded $1,000. Among the top male and female applicants from each state, the 12 most outstanding will be selected as national finalists and earn a minimum of $2,000. Among the national finalists, one male and one female winner will be selected as the winner of the $10,000 National Heisman High School Scholarship.

By inviting students from schools across the country to share their stories of leadership and impact, the program aims to inspire all students to harness their potential, push their limits, and use their talents to not only advance their future but to improve communities and the world around them. Over the past 27 years, the program has honored more than 600,000 seniors in the nation’s most respected high school and has provided more than $1 million in undergraduate scholarships to students across the United States.
“The values we promote in securing admissions—integrity, excellence, and service—are the values embodied by the students who receive this recognition. Helping them realize their visions of stronger communities and greater achievement alongside the Heisman Trophy is an honor and a privilege,” says Larry Welford, president and chief operating officer at Acceptance insurance.
The 2021 application for the Heisman High School Scholarship Program offered by Lockdown Admission is currently open. All high school students graduating as part of the Class of 2022 are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is October 19, 2021. Applicants will have the opportunity to win a college scholarship worth up to $10,000 and the ability to attend and be featured during the televised ESPN Heisman Cup Show.
