South Central Community Foundation (SCCF) is pleased to announce that the Charlie & Nila Swayze Scholarship will be awarding two $1,000 scholarship recipients for 2022! This scholarship is awarded to outstanding Medicine Lodge High School graduates with financial need who have at least a 3.0 GPA or ACT score of at least 20.
The Charlie & Nila Swayze Scholarship was established by Charlie Swayze, in memory of his wife Nila. The scholarship was started to help the students of Medicine Lodge continue their education and as a way for the Swayze’s to give back to the community that has been so good to them. Charlie and Nila settled in Medicine Lodge in 1967, where they were involved with the community and became prominent business owners. Nila owned the Somewhere in Time Gift Gallery in Medicine Lodge. She supported many youths throughout northern Barber County, in school, education, and youth programs. Charlie managed the Farmers Co-Op in Medicine Lodge; and continues to carry on the legacy he started with Nila, of supporting the youth of northern Barber County. Since this scholarship started in 2003, it has helped 33 students from Medicine Lodge achieve their college education goals.
New this year, the Foundation will be accepting all applications via an online portal. This will allow students to submit a universal application and then apply for each individual scholarship they are eligible for. Students who are interested in applying for this scholarship or the many other opportunities at SCCF, should visit the Foundation’s website at sccfks.org.
SCCF, a nonprofit, is proud to partner with Charlie Swayze to assist with the goal of helping the students of Barber County. Call (620) 672-7929 with questions regarding the Foundation, scholarships, or how to establish your own fund.
