Angel Scholarship Fund to advantage new Ohio tax credit program

A new program that allows Ohioans to receive a 100% tax credit of up to $750 in cash donations to approved grant-granting organizations has opened a new door to support educational assistance for Catholic school students in the Archdiocese of Cleveland.

The Catholic Community Foundation has established the Angel Scholarship Fund to accept eligible donations for tax credits for the new Ohio State scholarship, beginning in tax year 2022.

The new program allows donors to choose how to “spend” up to $750 of Ohio income tax liabilities for 2022. The Angel Scholarship Fund will prioritize scholarships for low-income families (below 300% of the poverty line) seeking educational opportunities A high quality catholic for her children. Contributors to the Angel Scholarship Fund will have the option to make a contribution that supports schools and students throughout the diocese based on financial need, or to make a contribution intended to benefit students at a particular Catholic school. Students in all Catholic primary and secondary schools across the eight provincial diocese are eligible for these scholarships.

Catholic schools serve their communities, and the Angel Scholarship Fund represents a new opportunity for the community, in turn, to support students in attending a Catholic school. Frank Olin, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, said that this program holds enormous potential to maintain an irresistible Catholic education, and an excellent academic education as widely as possible throughout our diocese. Cleveland’s Catholic Diocese schools have the largest school system in Ohio and the sixth largest Catholic school system in the country. Currently, Catholic schools serve 38,312 students in Northeast Ohio.

Students from every Catholic school in the diocese can apply for scholarships by filling out a scholarship application form. Applications will be processed by the Cleveland Diocese Office of Catholic Education. The Catholic Community Foundation expects to begin offering scholarships as soon as fall 2022.
