Clint Delaun Abbey Lobel Scholarship

The 2022 Ascension Parish Livestock Show took place on January 22 at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center. Despite the chilly temperatures, our hearts were filled with warmth as we watched nearly 75 Ascension Parish Livestock 4-H and FFA display their livestock. The memories, camaraderie, work ethic, friendly competition and responsibility gained through these livestock projects will be for life. These ladies and gentlemen work long hours looking after their animals and have done their best in the first step of this year’s livestock show.

In addition to the animals being judged, other awards such as Outstanding Exhibitors, Show Spirit, and Scholarships were also awarded. The first exhibitors’ competition is a test of the cattle exhibitors’ knowledge of their animal species. Students are tested and the most experienced model wins.

Rising Exhibitors

Soul Appearance is a competition based on how the exhibitor presents the animal to the Livestock Judge. The spirit of the show relies more on the actions of the viewer rather than on the assertion of the animal’s presentation. Scholarships are offered to graduating seniors.

An additional scholarship has been added this year to the mix to honor the late Clint Delawn. Clint was a parent to cattle and husband of Board Livestock Chairman Mandy Delaun. A rotating memorial board is set up to recognize the scholarship recipients each year.

Upcoming exhibitors will be holding the Ascension Livestock South Central District Livestock Show February 3-5 at the Lamar Dixon and the LSU AgCenter State Show taking place in Lamar Dixon February 12-19. Livestock shows are free entry and open to the public for viewing.
