Bell, W. Fa. Belle Chemical Company launched its new annual scholarship program to support Kanawha County students in post-secondary learning Monday at the Carver Career and Technical Education Center.

Company officials were on hand with leaders from Kanawha County and Belle Township schools to launch the Belle Chemical Scholarship Program to provide $500 scholarships to eligible students pursuing STEM-related degrees at accredited universities or community colleges in West Virginia.

JoLena Broussard, senior corporate and communications advisor at Belle Chemical Company told 580-WCHS that the company is focused on workforce development.

“We definitely want to make sure that we hire locally. It’s about getting these kids who are now interested in going into STEM and could be potential Belle Chemical employees in the future. We want to make sure we help them throughout the journey in any way we can,”

High school seniors and current undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply. A statement said preference would be given to residents of Peel.

Alisha Hunt, COO of Belle Chemical Company who is also a lifelong Belle resident, said Monday was a special day for her and her company.

“As a lifelong resident of Bell, it is near and dear to my heart to give back to the community,” Hunt said.

“It’s an overwhelming feeling of really proud, to be able to help them.”

In conjunction with the launch of the scholarship program, Belle Chemical has announced two donations to community partners:

A $2,500 donation – the town of Peel to support the Peel Signature Project.

A donation of $2,000 – Emergency Services at the Carver Vocational and Technical Education Center/EMT category to support the program. The program trains students in firefighting and basic EMT training.
