School closures and closures have brought various challenges to education, with students continuing to drop out of school due to financial crises or technological problems. Grants and prizes
Lilavati Award: Organized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), this award recognizes efforts to create awareness against gender discrimination, illiteracy, unemployment, human rights, economic and nutritional inequality among others.
Teams made up of students, faculty, or both from AICTE-accredited institutes can apply under different subcategories such as Women’s Health, Self-Defense, Sanitation and Hygiene, Literacy, Women’s Entrepreneurship, and Legal Awareness. A total of 18 winning teams will be selected, the winner will get a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, the first winner will get Rs 75,000 and the second runner-up will get Rs 50,000.

I want to: Initiated by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) under the auspices of the Union Ministry of Education, the UDAAN scheme enables female students from underprivileged, minority and reserved groups backgrounds to move from the school level to the professional level, specifically in science and mathematics.
The scheme includes tablets preloaded with lessons, videos, and study materials; Virtual contact classes in 60 dedicated centers; Orientation, mentoring, assessment and feedback sessions; Helpline services for removing doubts; Motivational sessions with students and parents.
Grade 11 female students of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics track enrolled in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, public schools of any recognized board or CBSE private schools can apply for the programme.

Pragati: This scholarship program from AICTE enables 5,000 female students to continue their technical education each year. Recipients are given Rs 50,000 each to pay college fees and purchase books, equipment and appliances.
First year students of an AICTE accredited college are eligible to apply on the National Scholarship Portal, provided that their annual family income is not more than Rs 8 lakh. The selection will be based on the merit of the Engineering Entrance Examination.
Sasham: Also from the AICTE stable, this scholarship provides support to particularly empowered students. A total of 1,000 candidates will be awarded Rs 30,000 annually as tuition fees, with an additional Rs 2,000 for the first ten months of each year as incidental fees.
Particularly qualified first-year students who are pursuing technical degree or diploma programs at AICTE-accredited institutions, and who have a disability of at least 40%, can apply for the scholarship. Their annual family income should not exceed 8 lakh rupees. The selection will be based on the merit of the Engineering Entrance Examination.
Ishan Uday: This is a special scholarship program by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for Northeast District (NER) students. A scholarship amount of Rs 5,400-7,800 per month is awarded to up to 10,000 candidates each year to pursue general degrees, technical and professional courses, including medical and paramedical programmes.
Candidates who have passed Class XII or equivalent examinations from a school in NER and were in the first year of a general degree, technical or vocational course at any recognized university or institution are eligible to apply on the official portal. Their annual family income should not exceed 4.5 lakh rupees.
Facility gates and platforms
Swayam: The Active Learning Networks Program for Active Learning for Young Ambitious Minds (SWAYAM) has been launched to offer free courses by professors of centrally funded institutions including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other central universities to students across the country.
SWAYAM offers various courses to students of class 9 through graduation through interactive video lectures, reading materials, self-assessment tests and an online discussion forum to remove doubt. These courses are prepared by more than 1,000 faculty members from all over the country.
Students can obtain SWAYAM certification by registering for a small fee and appearing for a proctored final exam at designated centers.
National Digital Library of India (NDLI): It is a comprehensive digital library containing digital content, including books, articles, videos, audios, thesis and other relevant materials for various educational levels.
Sponsored and guided by the Federation’s Ministry of Education National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), NDLI also provides test preparation content for school and college students as well as job aspirants. It is designed to store content in any language and provide interface support in 10 commonly used Indian languages.
DigiLocker: A pioneering initiative by the Union’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the platform ensures the issuance and verification of digital documents and certificates, replacing the use of physical paperwork. It is an online repository where users get a dedicated cloud space when registering with an Aadhaar number.
Registered organizations can directly transfer users’ documents such as mark sheets and transfer diplomas and other school and college certificates to their vaults. Both ICSE and CBSE students can digitally access their certificates through Digilocker.

Courses and Training
Spoken tutorial: It is an educational content portal launched under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) program of the Ministry of Education. Developed by IIT Bombay, the portal gives learners access to knowledge of several free and open source software, with engaging digital content ranging from basic to advanced.
It has classes in various disciplines including engineering, pure sciences and other programs at undergraduate and graduate level. Through the portal, IIT Bombay offers over 75 core and specialized courses covering general IT skills, programming, web development, multimedia, mathematics, science, industrial process simulation and more.

India International Skills Center (IISC): This initiative has been developed by the Union Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship under Skill India’s mission to train and certify in accordance with international standards.
IISCs are set up by the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) where candidates will be trained in International Standards and Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT), with vocational guidance and training as per foreign labor requirements through Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Candidates will be awarded joint certification by Indian Sector Skills Councils and international awarding organisations, apart from employment opportunities through agencies approved by the Union’s Ministry of External Affairs.
