Central New York – Partners for Education & Business, Inc. (PEB) standard year on local employer-sponsored scholarships. Regional high school students can now apply for four-year undergraduate scholarships in architecture, computer science, nursing, or engineering (particularly automation, chemical, electrical, mechanical or process engineering).
The CNY STEM Scholarship Program, endorsed by CNY Tech Sector and CNY STEM Hub, was launched in 2013 and is open to high school seniors wishing to major in the above fields. Residents of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and Tompkins counties are eligible to apply. Multiple scholarships are being offered this year by seven local companies: Cooper Lighting Solutions, INFICON, King + King Architects, Loretto, Novelis, SRC and TTM Technologies.
“Scholarships continue to evolve due to the commitment of local employers to find the best and brightest in this area, help with their educational expenses, and ultimately offer internships and full-time jobs here in central New York,” said program coordinator Marianne Ferris. .
Ferriss added that she’s seen over the past years students get scholarships, take advantage of paid internship opportunities, graduate, and get jobs at these local companies. PEB also maintains a database of all applicants and can reach these undergraduate students from the most sought-after STEM majors and educate them for open jobs or internships with employers.
Over the past nine years, PEB has awarded 65 scholarships totaling $706,000. This year, PEB is adding 13 more scholarships worth an additional $120,000.
Interested students can complete an online application at cnystem.com. The application deadline is March 1, 2022. The process includes independent reviews of applications, academic records, letters of recommendation, honors/awards list, extracurricular activities, essay and interview.
