Community announcements: Bus Driver Fair set for Saturday at crossroads

Bus drivers wanted

Bryan County Schools is holding a bus driver job fair from 10 am to 2 pm Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Highway 17 and 144 intersection in the parking lots of CVS, Walgreens, Hardees and Clydes.

Among the benefits are free, flexible training, starting at a minimum of $16.29 an hour, and full health benefits, plus $100 monthly bonus for perfect attendance. For more information call 912-459-5170 or visit BCSCareers.net.

NAACP Scholarships

This year, based on the number of applicants, Bryan County NAACP will be awarding graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA on the 4.0 grading scale, a one-time scholarship of up to $2,000 to cover the cost of educational needs (books, supplies , etc.).

Scholarship recipients must attend an accredited community college or university

According to a press release from the organization, this year’s scholarships will be underwritten by funds generated from the 1st annual Golf Tournament being held at The Ford, Field & River Club on May 5. Applicants must be a high school graduating senior from Bryan County High School or Richmond Hill High School and must submit a typed essay of no less than 500 words on one of the following topics “What is a challenge (ex: social, political, environmental) that is facing your generation? What are your thoughts on this challenge? Do you have any ideas how it might be solved?” or “What does freedom and equality mean to you?”

Additionally, applicants must complete and submit the application in its entirety before the scholarship deadline of April 15, 2022. NO partial submissions will be accepted. Incomplete or handwritten applications will automatically be disqualified.

The application is located at www.Bryancountynaacp.org. A link to the application is also located on the Bryan County, GA NAACP Branch 5648 Facebook Page. Supporting documents, should be emailed as attachments to bryancountynaacpscholarship@gmail.com or mailed to the address listed below. Hard copy applications will also be available at Bryan County High School and Richmond Hill High School.

If mailed, only original applications and supporting documents are to be used; Altered or re-typed application forms will not be considered. All documents submitted by mail should be sent to the attention of Bryan County Scholarship Committee, ATTN: Luella Sanders, PO Box 1552, Pembroke, GA 31321 and must be postmarked by April 15, 2022.

Beaches and Baskets

The Marne Community and Spouses’ Club (MCSC) will host its annual basket auction on Feb. 26 at Club Stewart, 1020 Hero Rd., Fort Stewart, Ga.

The public event, which includes heavy horses d’oeuvres, music, a cash bar and an auction, raises money for the non-profit organization’s scholarship and grant fund. The club raises thousands of dollars each year to fund scholarships for military dependents and grants for organizations that serve the Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield and surrounding area.

Tickets to the event are $25 at www.marnecommunityandspousesclub.com. The club is seeking sponsors to offset the costs of the event and businesses that would like to donate items for the auction.
