Drama students get Big Apple boost

PERFORMING Arts students at Fife College took a bite of the Big Apple when it came to a unique insight into the theater industry.

Actor Mick Mellampy, who became artistic director of the Origin Theater Company in New York recently, took part in an online Q&A session with students from the Creative Industries faculty.

Mick, who voices Sean MacGuire in the popular video game, Red Dead Redemption 2, and has appeared in TV series such as Law & Order and HBO’s I Know This Much Is True, spoke to students on the motion capture industry, the importance of entrepreneurial spirit and writing original pieces to increase visibility as an artist.

Lecturer Tina West said: “Mick’s talk was full of brilliant creative and practical advice for our learners, they were all absolutely buzzing afterwards.”

Acting and Theater Performance student Nicola Anderson, from Cowdenbeath, said:

“The conversation with Mick gave us some valuable insight into the world of performing arts. I got a lot of inspiration and motivation, and I look forward to using the advice to my advantage in the future.”

Mick said: “I am always motivated by the passion of others in our industry, so it was great to get the chance to talk to Tina’s group and witness some of their inspirational work.

“Thanks to Tina and her group for the opportunity to share my own journey with them too, hopefully everyone involved was able to take as much energy and drive from the discussion as I did.”
