The Visayas Central Land Transport Office (LTO 7) has issued a total of 5,339 certificates for the Malasakit Program of the Theoretical Driving School (TDC) in the region for the year 2021.
This equates to 18.6 million pesos in TDC scholarships with an average tuition value of 3,500 pesos per TDC scholarship from private driving schools.
LTO 7 director, Victor Emmanuel Kendyk, said these scholars took advantage of the agency’s free grant as one of the main requirements before obtaining their student driver permits from the LTO.
Kendyk said they have also moved the program to mountain regions and municipalities.
The LTO 7 official said their Malasakit TDC program will continue this year, and will continue to expand into remote and mountainous areas of central Visayas.
In the Certificate of Completion issued to TDC at Central Visayas for the year 2021, the majority of scientists or 4,601 individuals have benefited from free TDC through Malasakit on Wheels E-Patrol Mobile Service.
The remaining 738 scientists benefited from the Driver Education Center at Malasakit LTO 7 Service Center on N. Bacalso Ave. in Cebu City.
In 2020, a total of 923 scholars benefited from TDC scholarships.
LTO 7 is currently suspending implementation of the TDC program at the Driver Education Center.
With LTO Memorandum 2019-2176 or “Rules and Regulations for Accreditation, Supervision and Control of Driving Institutions, Standardization of Driver Education,” all applicants for a Student Driving Permit must undergo a 15-hour TDC.
TDC is only the first phase of two cycles of instructions given in the note provided to individuals who wish to obtain a student driver’s licence.
“We will continue to expand the Malasakit program for LTO Region 7 as we begin serving remote areas and mountainous provinces. Our goal is to partner with local government units to offer scholarships to those who deserve them and who cannot afford private driving schools,” Kendyk said.
Since the last quarter of 2021, LTO 7 has partnered with village chiefs in the mountainous regions of Cebu City.
LTO 7 has issued over a thousand TDC scholarships and expanded the program to Talisay City, Cebu.
In August 2020, LTO 7 began offering the free service of TDC Scholarships to help disadvantaged and deserving Filipinos to obtain a driver’s license. (Public relations)
