Three CCU graduates: Three local students graduated from Coastal Carolina University during an in-person Summer 2021 commencement ceremony on August 6. They were Madeleine Haring, a communications major from Lancaster, Joshua Blevins, a sports and entertainment management major, and Jhex Thomas, a management major. Both are from India.

LEAP Board Meeting: The LEAP Board of Directors will meet in person at 2:30 p.m. on December 7. The meeting will be held at the Lancaster County Education Office, 300 Catawba Street, Lancaster.

Bill Ardrey Forestry Scholarship: The Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for the $750 Bill Ardrey Forestry Scholarship from high school seniors living in Lancaster County.

“Bell has dedicated 42 years to advancing conservation and conservation education in Lancaster County and the state of South Carolina. It is an honor for the conservation district to honor Bell with this scholarship. LSWCD Chairman Joe Ghent said, “This scholarship will continue Bell’s legacy of educating future conservationists in the Lancaster County.” “Over the years, he has received awards and recognition from Lancaster County, the SC Department of Natural Resources, the SC Association of Conservation Areas, and the Southeast National Association of Conservation Areas.”

“We appreciate his countless hours of dedication to the Board, County and Partnership. He encourages the citizens of Lancaster County to be good stewards of the land. His willingness to serve and educate the public about natural resources is an excellent example of his dedication,” said Amanda Roberts, LSWCD District Manager. , he received one of the highest honors as a commissioner when he was inducted into the SENACD Hall of Fame in 2015.

Glenn Alexander Memorial Scholarship: The Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for the $750 Glenn Alexander Memorial Scholarship from high school seniors living in Lancaster County.

The LSWCD established this scholarship in recognition of Glenn Alexander’s 57 years of service with the conservation area and his dedication to preservation.

Applicants must plan to attend a fully accredited college, university or technical college. The conservation area prefers that the recipient specialize in a related agricultural or environmental field, such as agricultural education, agricultural economics, agronomy, agronomy, biology, forestry, horticulture, soil or wildlife management, but it is not a requirement.

Free lunches for all: The Lancaster School District provides free school lunches to all students who sign up.
