Davao City – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said that the out-of-school youth will greatly benefit from the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) so that they will have the opportunity to enroll again in the future or apply for scholarships.

In a recent post, the PSA said there are about 7 million out-of-school youth in the country, most of whom do not have valid identification or documents.

Now that PhilSys is on high alert, they have the opportunity to avail the Philippine Identity Card (PhilID) or National Identity Card, which must be accepted as a valid document as required by law.

“Apart from being free, it has a lifetime validity which individuals can use forever for various transactions,” the PSA posted.

In the absence of other valid IDs, a birth certificate certified by PSA, local civil registrar or barangay certificate with address and photo of the holder will be accepted at registration centres.

PSA published “Together We Pay for a New Philippines”, also reporting that more than 40 million Filipinos participated in the registration process as of October.

Signed into law by President Rodrigo R Duterte in August 2018, Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to create a single national identity card for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national identity card must be a valid proof of identity and be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, school enrollment, and opening bank accounts.

It also seeks to enhance efficiency, particularly in dealing with government services where people will only need to show one ID during transactions. (PNA)
