Former Florida State defensive end picks up two scholarship offers

The former defensive end of Florida State, Marcus Kushny became the last player to leave the roster and enter the transfer window last weekend. This was the second time Cushnie entered the gate in his career after moving to Tallahassee from Alabama A&M over the summer.

Just a few days after announcing his decision to research his third different show, Cushnie actually received two offers. According to his social media, he was featured by Massachusetts and Akron.

The coaching staff who will remain at UMass after former coach Walt Bell was fired took a first-hand look at Kushney during the 2021 season. His best performance came in the Agate and Gold against Massachusetts, where he fought twice and 1.5 sacks in a 59-3 win.

The Florida native has ties to Akron as well. Zips recently hired former Florida State graduate assistant Tre Bell as a quarterback coach. Bill was the Akron employee who introduced Kochi on Monday evening. The last former Seminole defensive end, Curtis Van Jr., is also a member of the program.

Kushney has one season of eligibility remaining at the college level and has goals from playing in the NFL. He’ll look for his next school to give him a chance to get off the edge, where he’s found success at Alabama A&M. During 26 professional FCS games, Cushnie scored 16 sacks and 23.3 tackles for a loss.

Florida State has a sore need on the defensive end after losing Marvin Jones Jr., Nigalek Kelly and Tyre West during their early signing spell. The coaching staff will be looking to the transfer window for assistance as they did a season ago. Last year, the Seminoles brought Kushney, Jermaine Johnson, and Kerr Thomas through the gate.
