Grambling State Gains Competitive Edge As It Becomes First NCAA School To Give NIL Deals To All Scholarship Athletes

On Monday, Grambling State took things to the next level and became the first program to use the NIL (Name, Image, Similarity) chances as a tool to take the entire sports program up, rather than a few lucky star players. Opponents of the new free enterprise in college sports say that these financial opportunities only benefit the best players on the team. These are athletes who are all members of Congress, all Americans, and future professionals.

Grambling announced that it is set to become the first program to offer NIL deals to all beginner athletes. This deal is unprecedented and the first of its kind in college athletics. These athletes will receive an annual income from this deal.

In the words of rapper Fat Joe: Yesterday’s price is not today’s price.

Jackson State isn’t the only school planning, politicizing, pooling resources, and counting on alumni and supporters to keep pace with other burgeoning programs.

ESPN’s Peter Thamel spoke about Grambling’s big story.

“The amount of income is unclear at this time. The school has a commitment from two companies, Urban Edge Network and Athylt, to provide income to all Grambling Scholarship recipients.”

keep up with sanders

The deal should do wonders for the Grambling State football program, now under the guidance of former NFL coach Hue Jackson. This move will enable Grambling to remain competitive in this field and become a leading player in NIL’s innovative and informal world of college sports.

Deion Sanders’ assured access to Black College football, his recruiting prowess and relationships with top brands across diverse cultural, ethnic and political affiliations have forced other schools to innovate and make powerful moves to equalize opportunity.

The deal was announced 34 years after the day former Grambling star Doug Williams became the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl and an SB MVP. It also comes 24 hours after James “Shack” Harris, another great Grambling signal communicator, and the first Black QB to start a season for a franchise in 1969, presented the George Halas Cup (NFC Championship) to the Rams, who played With him since 1973-76.

A new world out of nothing

Since July, the world of college sports has changed with new NIL deals (name, image and likeness) now available for student-athletes.

With student-athletes able to take advantage of sponsorships and other financial opportunities, the landscape of college sports and the NCAA athletics business has changed forever.

From promotional deals with local businesses in sports-crazy towns to national deals with big brands like Gatorade and Beats By Dre, the NIL craze has taken hold.
