Have Dreams of Becoming a Producer? This Scholarship Can Make It Happen

Calling all producers! Do you dream of creating the next “Pepas?” Well, this might be your chance. Record label Dirtybird has teamed up with Point Blank Music School to launch a BIPOC-focused producer scholarship program, the Equal Opportunity Scholarship. The recipient will be given free access to Point Blank’s industry-renowned six-month online diploma program in music production. Aside from earning the degree, this program allows participants to learn the ins and outs of writing and producing music at a professional level.

As noted in a press release, this program was created in order to “support diversity in dance music, giving those with limited resources a chance to gain mentorship and production skills from some of the brightest in the business.” Dirtybird will provide the honoree with a specialized mentorship in career branding, development, and marketing to the degree program and provide a monetary supplement for the recipient to purchase any equipment necessary to participate in Point Blank’s curriculum.

Claude VonStroke, the founder and label head of Dirtybird, expresses his excitement over being able to provide this opportunity, saying he’s “excited to partner with Point Blank who they believe to be a premier education school for electronic music producers.”

Last year, Dirtybird partnered with Los-Angeles based Beat Lab Academy to provide a similar scholarship. The winner, producer Sampson, went on to release tracks with the label Box of Cats. Point Blank Music School also provides several scholarships for their programs and has partnered with other electronic music staples, Resident Advisor and DJ Mag, for similar collaborative scholarships.

In order to apply for the scholarship, all you need is an essay, video submission, interview, and letters of recommendation. Applications are open until March 15 and the winner will be announced on April 11. You can apply for it here.
