Jammu, December 28: A four-day scholarship program by Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) began here today for students from rural areas where more than 80 percent of female students from economically weaker families will be covered.
A publication from the Trust stated that exams will also be conducted from grade 1 to grade 3 to select new students for the upcoming academic year.
Aside from scholarships, children will also get free medical exams and eye exams.
Students from class 7-10 will also participate in assessment tests.
The Director of the Trustee of the Trust said that scholarships will be distributed to 600 students and in the next several days around 100 students per day along with their parents will be invited to participate in the programme.
The Trust has been offering scholarships since 1997 and has increased the number of children helped each year from 12 to 600.
The bulletin stated that HBET aims to cover as many rural children as possible in and around Jammu in areas like Chak, Rattian, Doomi, Gajansoo, RS Pura, Birpur etc.
Families of financially vulnerable girls from grades 1-3 may apply to the Trust for a scholarship and the Trust only accepts financially vulnerable students in public schools.
