ROANOKE County, Virginia (WDBJ) – Hollins University has launched a new scholarship initiative.
Hollins Opportunity for Promise by Education offers recipients the ability to attend university full-time for four years completely tuition-free.
This scholarship program is for Virginia residents who live within a 40-mile radius of campus.
Mary Dana Hinton University says 12% of students are from the Roanoke Valley. She says the university is looking forward to providing this opportunity to young women in the region.
“This is truly a fantastic opportunity to support the ambitions and potentials of students here in our local community,” Hinton said.
Interested applicants must be current high school seniors and be accepted into Hollins for the Fall 2022 semester.
Applicants must also submit a FAFSA to the university by January 1.
“There is a lot here for a young woman and I am really excited about HOPE as a tool to share that with more young women,” said Dr. Ashley Browning.
HOPE scholars can take advantage of other opportunities at Hollins, including study abroad, internships, and the Patten Leadership Institute.
Currently, Hollins’ tuition is $39,360. The HOPE scholarship will save more than $157,000.
