Hospital foundation announces Natalie Bubela Nursing Scholarship

The Huntsville Hospital Foundation is pleased to support the continuing education of current and future nurses with the Natalie Bubella Nursing Scholarship, in honor of Natalie Bubella who served as President and CEO of MAHC from January 2011 to December 2021.

This honor recognizes Natalie’s strong support for the work of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation and recognizes Natalie’s 46 years of dedication to the nursing profession, strong commitment to mentorship and training, and the value she places on the professional development of nurses.

Starting her career as a registered nurse at a point of care, Natalie has distinguished herself as a clinical oncologist, patient advocate, and leader. Progressive leadership roles in senior healthcare executives culminated in her appointment as MAHC President and CEO as she has emerged from strength, compassion and an unwavering commitment to healthcare, explains Catherine Crane, CEO, Huntsville Hospital Corporation.

“With the Natalie Popella Scholarship Award, the Huntsville Hospital Foundation will support the annual scholarship totaling $5,000 annually for five years,” says Crane. The award is open to any Huntsville MAHC employee currently enrolled in post-secondary studies in a nursing program such as the Diploma in Practical Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), Nurse Practitioner Program, or a specialized nursing certificate program (such as critical care nursing, emergency nursing, and obstetrical nursing).

“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to be able to access education and professional development, as well as to understand first hand the budget challenges of academic studies,” says Pobela. “Continuing education has always been something I have championed at MAHC, and I also recognize the need for more people to enter the nursing profession or grow their nursing career, and the value of the nursing major. I am humbled and very moved that the institution is creating a Nursing Education Scholarship award in my name, and I feel proud to be Part of shaping future nurses.”

More scholarship details will be posted on Huntsville Hospital Corporation website In January 2022. The award winners(s) will be celebrated at the Foundation’s Board of Directors meeting.
