How to start 2022 successfully as a university student | Times Higher Education (THE)

Setting New Year’s resolutions is a great way to start the new year with some new habits and expectations.

If you’re looking to improve and mix your college life, these 5 New Year’s Resolutions may be just what you need to start 2022 in full swing.

1. Aim for balance

By this we mean the balance between study and downtime. This is an ongoing decision because your work-life balance will fluctuate depending on how many deadlines are coming up, how many classes you’ll take this year, and how busy your social life is.

So one way to ensure you always have some kind of balance is by using some simple planning tools. Writing to-do lists, writing down deadlines on a calendar and preparing a study schedule will help you prioritize and understand your workload. Taking time out at the beginning of the week is a good time if it helps you organize your time.

Next, be sure to plan some time during the day, even if it’s only an hour, to pursue a hobby, take some time off, or socialize with a friend. It can be all too easy to ignore this when college work is rampant, but you’ll feel overwhelmed if you spend all your time working and not resting.

This article on how to manage your time as a college student has more great tips to help you do just that.

2. Develop your network

One of the best aspects of being in university is the opportunities to meet people you wouldn’t normally meet. In addition to connecting with fellow students who have a lot of different points of view to share, take some time to chat with your professors, as they may have some interesting tips and information that might not be conveyed during the lecture.
