HURON – Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for scholarship funds to enhance careers in health care in the Huron region, according to Shaun Martin, CEO of HRMC.
“Our primary goal is to encourage individuals to continue their education while pursuing a career in healthcare, with the result making people more qualified to care for our community in the future,” Martin explained. “Students of all ages are welcome to apply and learn more about achieving a career in healthcare for life.”
The scholarships are designed to give local researchers the opportunity to achieve their career goals while providing much-needed medical expertise to the community. There are two categories available for high school seniors and college students who are pursuing health careers.
• The Healthy Huron Interest Scholarship focuses on supporting those interested in a career in the medical field but are either not pursuing a degree in an area of dire need or are not ready to commit to returning to the Huron Region upon graduation. Actual scholarship amounts will be determined by the scholarship committee.
• The Huron Health Commitment Scholarship is the equivalent of a full scholarship for students pursuing degrees in high-need medical fields at one of South Dakota’s four technical schools. This is made possible through our partnership with Build Dakota. The foundation pays half of the student’s tuition fees, and Build Dakota takes care of the rest. In return, the recipient is obligated to complete his education and return to our community to work in his field of study.
After the student fulfills his obligation to work, usually the length of the program plus one year, he is not obligated to repay the scholarship. Students pursuing a degree through an undergraduate program are also eligible to apply.
“Ensuring the continued presence of specialized, high-quality healthcare staff in the Huron District is a top priority for HRMC supporters and we are committed to supporting that goal,” Martin said.
Applications for both granting of interest and commitment must be submitted electronically by 5 p.m. on March 31. To learn more and apply, visit www.hrmcfoundation.org. For questions, call 605-353-6315 or email [email protected]
