According to the cute little countdown on the AICPA Legacy Scholarships page, as of now (currently as on the date this post was published) you have 35 days left to apply for the AICPA Legacy Scholars Scholarships 2022-2023 program.

They include:

  • AICPA Foundation Scholarship for the Future of Certified Public Accountants $3,000 – $10,000
  • AICPA Scholarship Award for Minority Accounting Students $3,000 – $10,000
  • AWSCPA Scholarship Award 5000 dollars
  • AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Award 5000 dollars
  • AICPA Two-Year Transfer Scholarship Award 5000 dollars

Each scholarship has its own requirements, but if you qualify for more than one, you do not need to apply twice, you will be considered for any scholarship you qualify for as long as you apply for one. One requirement common to all Legacy Scholars Scholarships is that you must be an Affiliate Student Member of the AICPA to qualify. If you’re not already a member, you can apply here (it’s free, don’t worry).

What is the Legacy Scholars Program? I hear you’re not asking. Glad you didn’t ask! The AICPA Legacy Scholars Program is designed to help students from different backgrounds become chartered accountants by helping with the cost of their college education. The program also provides scholars with educational and professional development opportunities throughout the year. (I stole this clip directly from This Way to CPA. Sorry guys, I didn’t feel like paraphrasing) The AICPA gives out over $1 million annually to hundreds of students, and with an inflation rate of 6.2%, you should absolutely try to get any Part of that awesome million for which you may be eligible (the average award is $5,000 according to the AICPA).

If none of the scholarships listed above tickle your fancy, you can also do a national scholarship search on This Way to CPA to see if one (or more!) is right for you. Many of the scholarships listed on that page are closed for applications; However, the Accounting Doctoral Scholars Program opens for applications March 1, and the William (Bill) Ezzell Scholarship for the AICPA—which awards $10,000 to five recipients—is open through March. There are many pages to scroll through all kinds of government scholarships as well, so click on them to see if any of them are eligible. Hey, it’s free money for school! If you qualify, that is.

If you have any questions that haven’t been answered by This Way to CPA Resources, reach out to them nearest adult Faculty members of your school’s accounting program should be able to guide you. Now go get that money!
