COVID-19 cases in India: IIT Hyderabad has listed facts about virus cases, isolation, student vaccination, classes and restrictions.

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has shared the facts about the COVID-19 situation at the institute. The institute has suspended classes offline and conducts online classes.

Various information about COVID-19 scenario has been shared about IIT Hyderabad recently. Here are the facts about the Covid situation in IIT Hyderabad, said an official statement from IIT Hyderabad while listing the facts regarding covid cases, isolation, student vaccination and restrictions.

IIT Hyderabad: Case of COVID-19

  • Only twice vaccinated students were invited to the IIT Hyderabad campus.
  • The institute currently has 211 isolation rooms and will be increased based on requirements.
  • IIT Hyderabad currently has 112 positive active cases of Covid among students. They were all isolated in separate isolation areas.
  • Almost all reported cases are either mild or asymptomatic and show good signs of recovery within 4-5 days.
  • Sterilization or disinfection of isolation facilities, toilets are carried out at regular intervals.
  • The institute currently has 6 well-qualified doctors and 9 working nurses serving the IITH community (24 x 7) on a rotational basis. It has also hired 4 additional staff nurses exclusively to monitor coronavirus cases.
  • Food and medicine are delivered to all students affected by the virus directly by attendees (with necessary covid protocols).
  • The isolation period is 7 days from the date of the examination.
  • Students from the same group (if one student is found positive) (primary and secondary contacts) are isolated for two days. It is advisable to get tested if you find symptoms.
  • A rapid antigen test or RT-PCR is performed.
  • Strict restrictions are imposed on the entry and exit gates to contain the spread.
  • Two ambulances (including the Intensive Care Unit on wheels) are available 24/7 for all emergencies (including moving cases to higher centers, when required).
  • All offline activities are suspended and class takes place in fully online mode. About 600 uninfected students have evacuated the hostel. The institute will convert the vacated hostel blocks into isolation facilities.
  • A report on COVID cases (on-campus and off-campus) is shared with DHMO-Sangareddy’s office on a daily basis.
