The Royal Hospital School (RHS) in Holbrook, Ipswich is offering a scholarship to 11th grade students in Essex and Suffolk who have a keen passion for Mathematics and intend to study the subject at A-level and university.
This independent boarding and day school is located on 200 acres of countryside in Suffolk. The school has a strong nautical history and runs daily traditions to honor this, including the raising and lowering of its banner and wearing the uniform of the Royal Navy.
The De Neumann Mathematics Scholarship gives students in their final year of school the opportunity to receive a full scholarship at the sixth level of the RHS. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must have attended a school in either Essex or Suffolk, have a strong interest in mathematics and have expected high grades in the subject as well as strong references.
Chris Graham, Chapter Six Head at Royal Hospital said: “This scholarship is a life-changing opportunity to attend the sixth course at Royal Hospital with a 100% scholarship. Our current scholar at De Neumann is sitting at A-levels this year as he looks forward to studying aeronautical engineering at Imperial College London.”

The scholarship is named after Professor Bernard de Neumann, a graduate of the school and a British mathematician, inventor and marine historian. Passionate about maintaining the relevance of the subject in the school, Newman’s estate funded the scholarship that will welcome a new student every two years.
Owen, a current researcher at the school, said, “The De Neumann scholarship has provided me with many opportunities, especially increasing my passion for mathematics, physics and chemistry, which prompted me to apply for aeronautical engineering courses at the university. But it is more than just academics, I have had new experiences that I will not have in any Another place, especially in the sports field.”
