Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation offering free tax help

Beginning January 24th, 2022 and ending April 18th, 2022, the Levi Pearson Scholarship is offering free tax help at the Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 Brooks Street, Manning SC, and the Clarendon County NAACP Branch Office, 21 Railroad Avenue, Summerton SC. Since 2015 the Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation has cooperated with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) to have free tax preparation in the Clarendon county community.

“The VITA program provides free basic income tax return preparation for qualified individuals in local communities. IRS – certified volunteers are on hand to inform taxpayers about special refundable tax credits for which they may qualify, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly,” reads a press release from the Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation .

Since 2015 the location for the free tax preparation has been held at the Harvin Clarendon County Library. Anyone interested in receiving tax assistance can contact the Harvin Clarendon County Library or the NAACP Branch Office to arrange an appointment. People who would like to schedule appointments online can do so as well. During the Tax preparation for 2021 they accomplished 300 tax returns last year.

“We had a really good turn out,” Lemon said.

“Individuals must bring the following documents: Valid government – issued photo identification and Social Security cards (or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers) for themselves, spouses and dependents, Wage and earnings statements (Forms W – 2) Interest and dividend statements (Forms 1099) , Any other information concerning their income and expenses for 2021. To get refunds as quickly as possible, taxpayers should also bring proof of their bank account routing and account numbers, such as blank checks, and select direct deposit as the refund method. For joint returns, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms,” reads a press release from the Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation.

Beverly Lemon works at internal revenue service where she is a tax consultant. She and many other tax consultants are assigned to find non profit organizations in which they partner with to help prepare those in the community with their taxes through the IRS.

Lemon has been working with the Clarendon county location for many years helping many people with their taxes. While being a tax consultant they are required to find non organizations in which they partner with to help prepare those in the community with their taxes through the IRS.

“Our site generally helps people whose incomes are $58,000 or less prepare their federal and state income tax returns and provide free electronic filing,” said Pastor Arthur Moyd, Site Coordinator. “Assistance is provided by Appointment Only , so we encourage people to contact Harvin Clarendon Library at 803 – 435 – 8633 to schedule an appointment” reads a press release from the Levi Pearson Scholarship Foundation.

Lemon reached out to the Summerton community last year, expressing a desire to help others in that town as well, assisting those in the community who required tax assistance.
