Martin Luther King Jr. Day is celebrated every year on the third Monday in January, and celebrates the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. With a long weekend approaching, we rounded up a few ways to celebrate in Houston.
Martin Luther King Day Parade in Houston
The Original 44th Annual MLK Day Parade
The 44th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in Houston has been announced. This year’s parade will take place in person, according to Mayor Sylvester Turner. After holding a remote event last year due to the outbreak, it was a major concern.
This year’s slogan is “Be a drummer for justice.” Expect marches by bands, colorful floats, and other events honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and Houston’s standing as the nation’s fourth most diverse city. After the show, there will be a festival downtown, which will include an induction ceremony from the Hall of Fame and an award banquet, as well as a Gospel Extravaganza.
