Names released of juveniles charged in Auburn High School shooting

ROCKFORD, Illinois (WIFR) – Nerik Williams, 16, and Fracon Wright, 17, have been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm on the school grounds. One of the juveniles accused of shooting was also identified.

According to the Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office, the shooting victims were sitting in a car parked in the parking lot of Auburn High School.

Authorities say a Buick LaCrosse tan with Wisconsin license plates drove past the parked car several times, and pulled up behind the victim’s car as Buick’s Nerik Williams exited with a gun. The second suspect, Fracon Wright, also exited a Buick with a handgun. Williams and Wright approached the victim’s car and opened fire.

A 17-year-old victim got out and was shot in the leg, while a 17-year-old victim stayed in the car aiming and calling 9-1-1.

Five 9mm casings were found at the scene.

Officers located Tan Buick La Crosse heading east at the 1200 block of Harrison Street and followed. Williams, Wright, and the unnamed juvenile attempted to flee the officers on foot after the car crashed at 2900 Labey Street.

Officers found the male juvenile at 2900 Hanson Street without pants or shoes. His clothes were located at block 2900 of Eleventh Street.

A “track” was made with the help of K9 to find Williams and Wright, who were found hiding in a garage in the 2900 block of Labey Street.

Police seized two pistols during the investigation.

The arrests come after a senseless shooting in the parking lot of Auburn High School, Tuesday, January 4, After 1 p.m., Auburn students were placed under lockdown during an investigation, which was lifted more than two hours later.

Rockford Police Chief Carla Reed has confirmed that the investigation into the Auburn High School shooting includes two victims. A 17-year-old male and a 17-year-old female. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

There were reports of a shooting investigation Tuesday afternoon at Auburn High School in Rockford, Illinois.

The Rockford Police Department confirmed the investigation on their Twitter account at approximately 1:40 p.m.
