National Overseas Scholarship scheme/ Passage grant Scheme for ST candidates | National Overseas Scholarship scheme for ST students

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has invited applications for the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) / Pass Scholarship Scheme for ST candidates for the year 2021-22.

The National Overseas Scholarship Scheme (NOS) provides financial assistance to selected students to pursue their postgraduate studies abroad at master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral research programs.

20 prizes will be awarded annually to ST students, 17 of which will be to Ranked Tribes and 3 to Specially At Risk Tribal Groups (PTG). Six prizes (30%) are for girls. Priority will be given to those who have already obtained an initial letter/offer of admission; Second priority will be given to those who have passed the GRE/GMAT/TOFEL etc. exams and started applying to different universities and later other candidates.

Subjects covered: Subjects/disciplines in which courses can be taken for awarding are (1) Engineering, Management, Economics/Finance – Total 7 (2) Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences- 3 (2) Agriculture, Medicine-5 (IV) Humanities and Social Sciences – 5.

The scheduled financial aid must be provided until completion of the course/research or the following period, whichever is earlier: (a) Postdoctoral Research – 1 & 1/2 year (one and a half years) (b) PhD 4 years (four years) (c) Master’s degree – 1/2/3 years (one year / two years / three years) depending on the duration of the course.

Eligibility: (a) for post-doctoral: 55% degrees or equivalent degree in relevant master’s degree and (b) for doctoral: 55% degrees or equivalent degree in relevant master’s degree. (c) For Master’s Degree: 55% grades or equivalent degree in a relevant Bachelor’s degree. Experience will be an advantage for all programmes.

The applicant must be under the age of 35, as on the first day of July in the year for which the award is concerned. The total household income from all sources of the employed candidate, his/her parents/guardians or spouse should not exceed Rs. 6.00 lakh annually. Only one child from the family will be eligible for the one-time award.

The scholarship includes (1) annual maintenance allowance of US$15,400/-/£9,900/- (2) annual emergency and equipment allowance of US$1,532 or £1,116. There are other advantages as well. Applications are also invited to award four grants of passage to the Scheduled Tribes. Only those ST candidates who receive merit scholarship for postgraduate study, research or training abroad (except for attending seminars, workshops and conferences), from a foreign government/organization or under any other scheme, where the cost of passage is not provided they are eligible to apply.

The applicant must have a master’s degree or its equivalent in a technical, engineering or scientific discipline.
