Nominations sought for Sandra K. Monroe Excellence in Student Services Award

Nominations are being accepted for the inaugural Sandra K. Monroe award. The award is to be given annually to one or two student-facing professionals for their policy advocacy and/or exemplary service to students.

The Office of the Provost established the Sandra K. Monroe Excellence in Student Services Award to honor Monroe’s contributions to Purdue and her legacy of impact.

Monroe, who retired in August 2021, was a constant advocate for young Boilermakers. During her time at Purdue, she served as a counselor, an academic advisor, associate dean of students, and assistant vice president for student services, and she helped thousands of undergraduate and graduate students throughout their time on campus.

The award of $1,000 is open to any staff member employed in a student-facing role at Purdue West Lafayette or Polytechnic Statewide.

To be eligible for the award, the individual must demonstrate the following:

  • Exemplary service to Purdue students.
  • Contribution to the student experience through student-centered policy advocacy.
  • Evidence of the magnitude, depth, and/or breadth of impact (eg, nature/quality of contribution, number of years, number of students).

Each submission for the Sandra K. Monroe Excellence in Student Services Award must include the following:

  • Nomination cover letter addressing alignment between the nominee’s accomplishment and the criteria noted above. Nominations can be submitted by colleagues or supervisors of the nominee.
  • Nominee CV.
  • A minimum of two letters of support that address the award criteria.
    • One letter from a campus colleague (eg, advisor, student life professional, faculty member, administrator).
    • One letter from a student.

Nominations and all submission materials must be submitted to Shelly Dunk at sdunk@purdue.edu by 11:59 pm March 21.
