Off-Campus Program Financials

It is very important to understand the financial impact of an overseas/off-campus study programme.

Can be the cost of off-campus study is very similar to the cost of living on campus. For some programs, the program abroad will be more affordable than the cost of living on campus. For other programs, the program will be more expensive abroad.

Due to the variety of programs, the financial information on this page is general. Please contact the Global Engagement Office (GEO) for financial information for a specific program, but please be aware that only the Global Engagement Office (GEO) can provide estimated costs due to our program partners’ right to change program fees at any time.

When students participate in the GEO program, the student will be billed by Lake Forest College for the following:

  • Lake Forest College Fees
  • Geo Program Fee
    • GEO program fees can vary greatly depending on the specific program ($1,000 – $7,500 per semester). Please review the section below for more information on GEO program fees.

In addition to what fees are paid to students by the LFC, there are out-of-pocket costs to consider.

Petty cash can include, but is not limited to:

  • Program application and deposit fees
    • Lake Forest College does not charge an application fee or filing fee for our in-house off-campus application (named GEO application); However, almost every program charges a fee for both the application and the filing fee. Deposit fees for many programs are paid to the college and included in the student’s GEO program fee.
  • travel by plane
    • Students who participate in the Exchange ISEP program are eligible for compensation prize trip worth $ 750.
    • If a student is participating in a program from our program partner, Webster University, they may also be eligible for a travel award of $1,000 to cover the cost of the trip.
  • Meals, if not included in the GEO . fee
  • Accommodation, if not included in the GEO program fee
  • Insurance, if required by the program and not included in the GEO program fee
  • Visa/Residence Permit Fee (if applicable)
  • Books / course materials
  • daily expenses

Geo Program Fee

GEO program fees vary depending on whether the student is participating in the Exchange or Direct Enrollment Program.

Exchange Programs:

Quick note: Only our partner ISEP (International Student Exchange Program) offers exchange programmes.

The GEO program fee for ISEP Exchange programs consists of:

  • Lake Forest College room (standard room rate)
  • Lake Forest College Meal Plan
  • Lake Forest College Miscellaneous Fee (Activity, Health & Wellness Center)
  • $100 administration fee
  • Lake Forest College Fee by ISEP:
    • ISEP . deposit
    • ISEP Insurance

Basically, with the ISEP Exchange form, students pay for a “place” at Lake Forest College for an international exchange student to spend the semester living and studying at Lake Forest College. Lake Forest College students who participate in the Exchange program will then receive housing abroad (housing type varies depending on the specific host institution) and a meal/stipend plan. please note: Due to differences in the cost of living via Global Exchange Membership with ISEP Programs, the benefits of housing and meals are always Equivalent, but rarely, if they are equal. Exchange students always receive housing for the full dates of the program, including 19-21 meals per week. The types and advantages of housing at home versus the host university are not equal in terms of monetary amount due to variance in measures of economy, government subsidies, location, cost of living, etc. You can review more information by visiting the ISEP disbursement form page.

Direct Recording Programs:

GEO program fees can vary significantly for direct enrollment programs.

For direct enrollment programs, the GEO program fee will include the fee that the student program charges Lake Forest College. Many programs charge the college for student housing abroad, but many programs do not include any form of meal plan/meal stipend, so meals may have to be out of pocket. Some direct enrollment programs also include international insurance, excursions, etc., and if these expenses are paid to the college, they will be included in the student’s GEO program fee.

There is an administrative fee for direct enrollment programs. The administrative fee is $1,000 (for programs without a meal plan/salary) or $1,500 (programs with a meal/salary plan). Please note that although administrative fees are higher for direct enrollment programs, there are a variety of direct enrollment programs that are still more affordable than the ISEP exchange program depending on student status.

In most direct enrollment programs, students generally pay what they would pay to live/study on campus at the LFC.

Direct enrollment programs have their own tuition fees; However, Lake Forest College covers the program fee on behalf of the student.

work abroad

Due to visa or residence permit regulations, students usually cannot work while abroad. Students should keep in mind when planning a study abroad program that they will most likely not be able to work during the program.

Lake Forest College is able to offer a variety of scholarships for accredited study abroad programs. Please contact the Global Engagement Office for more information.

There are also a variety of external scholarships to study abroad. Students must apply for any scholarships through their specific program if they are eligible. Please contact the Office of Global Engagement for more information on external scholarships, including the Gilman Scholarship offered through the US Department of State.
