SCOTTSBLUFF – The Oregon Trail Community Foundation would like to announce March 15 as a new deadline for receiving all scholarship applications. Detailed information about each of the 20 scholarships offered through the OTCF can be found on the foundation’s website: otcf.org.
The OTCF would like to present its latest scholarship offer: The Sharon M. Hoffman Scholarship for Music Teachers.
Sharon Hoffman (Arthur) has been a beloved music teacher at Bayard for 34 years. The Hoffman family wishes to honor Sharon’s memory and musical legacy by offering a scholarship in her name to those pursuing a career as a music teacher. This scholarship is for high school seniors or college students who are pursuing a career as a music teacher. The scholarship is open to students throughout the Nebraska Panhandle. A scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually.
Hoffman has spent her career caring for her students and directing award-winning choirs and performance choirs. She was known nationally as an expert in teaching music in small schools, and in the late 1980s her master’s thesis helped shape the face of maternity leave in Nebraska schools. She served as the guiding chair on the Executive Board of the Nebraska Teachers of Music Association, which honored her as a Distinguished Music Educator in 2006 and has been the District 6 representative for the Nebraska Schools Activities Association for more than 30 years. In 2007, the Nebraska High School Association recognized her as the Music Teacher of the Year.
