Portland Community College is accepting scholarship applications through February 1.

Awards range from $700 to $5,000 annually, with an average scholarship amount of $1,800. The foundation says it expects to reach 1,600 students in the 2022-23 academic year.

Any student planning to attend the college can apply. Scholarships are available to students of all ages, backgrounds, and disciplines.

According to data for the 2019-2020 school year, 56% of students with credits were 25 years old or younger.

The app asks two questions for 350-word essays: “What is your career goal and educational plan to achieve this goal?” and, “What is your greatest strength or trait and how will this help you succeed in PCC?”

Applicants also need an academic, athletic, or professional reference, as well as a copy of their most recent high school or college transcript. They must also have already completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and the Oregon Student Aid Application.

Decisions will be sent in early June, and scholarships will be available for use next summer, fall, and spring for tuition, fees, and books.

The second application cycle for the 2022 high school semester will open in May.
