Paul Bunyan Communications essay contest

Area High School Students ages 16 or 17 are encouraged to enter the Paul Bunyan Communication contest for a chance to attend the 2022 Youth Tour in Washington, DC June 1-5, with all expenses paid by Paul Bunyan Communications.

Students need to submit an essay of 500 words or less on why they would like to attend the youth tour. Students must be 16 or 17 years of age and in high school and have a parent or guardian who is a member of Paul Bunyan Communications Cooperative.

Entries can be dropped off at the Paul Bunyan Communications office in Bemidji or Grand Rapids, or they can be mailed to: Paul Bunyan Communications Essay Contest, 1831 Anne St. NW, Bemidji, MN 56601

The deadline for entries is Friday, March 4.

The trip features a comprehensive overview of the telecommunications industry and allows youth to meet with members of Congress who represent rural constituents. Youth will also participate in educational sessions about the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and visit some of the nation’s historic sites, including Mount Vernon, the Smithsonian Museums, and a night tour of Washington, DC

All attendees will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and follow all current NTCA protocols related to health and safety.

TEAM Industries Scholarship

The TEAM Industries – Don Ricke Scholarship Fund, a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF), is qualified students to apply for the 2022 scholarship round. The intent of the scholarship is to develop career opportunities in Northwest Minnesota by helping students pursuing post-secondary education with a preference for engineering, machine tool trades and technology-related fields of study.

Scholarships are offered as a one-time award to local high school graduates. Previous recipients may reapply for a second-year scholarship with proof of successful completion of first year of study; Renewals are not guaranteed.

Students must have graduated or will graduate from qualifying schools, which include Laporte, Nevis and Park Rapids, with preference given to seniors who will be graduating this year.

Applications for the scholarship are being accepted through April 15. Applications are completed online through the NMF website www.nwmf.org by clicking on “Scholarships” on the home page.

Future in Space Scholarship

The Neen’s Future in Space Scholarship, a component fund of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation (NMF), is seeking qualified applicants to apply for the 2022 scholarship round.

The annual scholarship is dedicated to qualified students who have graduated within the 12-county NMF service area, who are pursuing their junior or senior year in post-secondary education or postgraduate study through a college, university, or other accredited non-profit technical or vocational education/training institution or program; majoring in the study of science, math, technology or engineering with the preference for students entering a career in astrophysics, aeronautical engineering, or aerospace.

Eligibility requirements and an online application are available at www.nwmf.org. Click on “Scholarships” on the home page. A application includes providing transcripts and completed two letters of recommendation as well as a short essay regarding the student’s non-work experience, internships and/or community involvement. The deadline for the scholarship is May 31.
