South African citizens are invited to apply for the Mauritius and Africa Scholarship Program offered by the Government of Mauritius for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programs on campus.
This is for programs available at public higher education institutions (HEIs) in Mauritius for the 2022 academic year, which begins in April 2022.
As the nomination agency, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has invited South African nationals who wish to apply for the Mauritius and Africa Scholarship Program to do so before the closing date of January 31, 2022.
“The information provided is for South African applicants only. Applicants from other eligible countries should contact their government or a local representative of the government of Mauritius for information on how to apply,” the Ministry of Vocational Education and Training said on Monday.
The department said applicants should note that this call for applications is for April 2022 intake only. The call for the October 2022 reception will be published later in the year.
Applicants are encouraged to note that the deadline above differs from the guidelines below, due to the processing of applications and selection processes that must be completed by DHET as the nominating agency.
“Failure to submit applications and supporting documents by the above deadline will result in your application not being considered,” the department said.
The department said that self-financed African students who are already studying in Mauritius are not eligible to apply to the same program level as they are currently studying under this scholarship programme.
The scholarship will provide tuition fees and course-related costs of up to 100,000 MUR and a monthly living allowance of 12,500 rupees (about 4,500 rand).
Students will also be entitled to free basic healthcare in Mauritius public hospitals and a return ticket to and from Mauritius in the most economical way.
“Winners will have to make their own arrangements to pay for the one-way airline tickets and then apply for a refund upon arrival in Mauritius by submitting the necessary original receipts and documents.
“Please read the guidelines to ensure you have the correct documents for a refund,” the department said.
The department said that successful candidates are required to provide an allowance for all other expenses not covered by this scholarship, for example, additional tuition costs over the offer of tuition, fieldwork costs, books, and re-examination costs.
Applicants are encouraged to read the guidelines carefully before applying.
