Student killed, three injured after crash involving school bus near Desert Hot Springs

A child was killed and three others were injured after being hit by a car that had just hit a separate school bus near the desert hot springs.

A Cal Fire spokesperson told Channel 3 news that two children were seriously injured, and another had minor injuries. Minutes later, one of the children was announced dead at the scene.

The driver of the other car was also taken to hospital.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Aurora Road and Corkill Drive shortly before 4 pm

The California Highway Patrol captain told News 3’s Jake Ingrassia that a white Cadillac driver hit the back of the school bus, then while trying to get around the bus, lowering a speed limit sign before hitting four students who were returning home from the bus stop.

The Republican People’s Party continues to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

Channel 3’s Jake Ingracia confirmed at the scene that officers are treating this as a crime scene.

Joanne Boyko, a spokeswoman for the Palm Springs Unified School District, confirmed that the school bus was coming from Rancho Mirage High School. The students who were hit by the car are from Julius Corsini Elementary School, just off Hacienda.

We have a crew at the scene working to gather more information. Stay with News Channel 3 for continued updates.
