Applications are invited to apply as Tenure-Track Associate Professor / Assistant Professor of Synthetic Biology (multiple positions) in the College of Biomedical Sciences (Reference: 509287), to start as soon as possible, a three-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal and taking into account the period before the expiration of the second three-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants must possess: (1) a Ph.D. A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline; (2) Evidence of international recognition and a strong scholarship record with a demonstrated ability to work across disciplines toward new research initiatives; (3) a strong commitment to engaging students in inquiry-based learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels; and (iv) a proven track record of high-quality research as evidenced by a track record of publication and external grants. Applicants with a proven track record of leading and coordinating large-scale collaborative projects in synthetic biology would be advantageous. We also welcome competitive, ambitious and creative candidates with at least 2-3 years of postdoctoral training in key synthetic biology areas.
The appointees will be expected to conduct research in the field of synthetic biology with a focus on the application of synthetic biology to basic scientific investigations or the development of innovative technology in thematic applications in biomedicine, as well as to create a research group that is innovative, well-funded and open to interdisciplinary collaboration. They will also be expected to be involved in teaching biomedical science topics relevant to human health and disease that include biochemical, cellular and molecular biology essential to whole-body regulation and homeostasis, across a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs including medical and biomedical sciences, pharmacology, nursing and/or Chinese medicine. In the context of career development, appointees are expected to make significant contributions to the school’s strategic developments in academic and research collaborations locally, regionally and internationally. You will be offered a very competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, the payroll tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments will attract end-of-contract bonus and the university’s contribution to the retirement benefit scheme, totaling up to 15% of base salary. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
