The Bristol Press – Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP is accepting applications for it’s Scholarship Fund

BRISTOL – The Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP is accepting applications for it’s recently created Scholarship Fund with the Main Street Community Foundation.

Samantha Rajotte, scholarship and program officer with the Main Street Community Foundation, said that applications are being accepted through March 11.

“Last year, the Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP established a scholarship fund to achieve equality through educational opportunities,” she said. “Two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Graduating high school seniors from Bristol, Burlington, Harwinton, Plainville, Plymouth and Southington are eligible to apply.”

The Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP has been around since the 1970s and was formally re-organized in 1985 as part of an effort led by Rev. Dr. Eddie C. Whitehead.

The NAACP created the Reverend Dr. Eddie C. Whitehead of Bristol CT – Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund in 2021 to honor Whitehead’s mission of advancing educational opportunities. The first scholarship awarded from this Fund will be granted this spring.

“The Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP has awarded scholarships to local students in the past, but partnering with the Main Street Community Foundation allows this scholarship to now be permanent,” said Eric Clemons, president of the Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP. fund was created so the Greater Bristol Branch of the NAACP could create a legacy for the communities we serve. At the same time, we remember the efforts of men and women like Dr. King and Pastor Whitehead, whose dreams to ensure educational opportunities and equity will now live through this fund forever.”
