The morning session of the Ohio State camp on June 9, which lasted for one day, featured two airline guys that Bucks had already offered a scholarship to. One of them was 2023 defensive intervention Keith Sampson From New Bern, North Carolina. Sampson had a wonderful morning spending time working under the Ohio State defensive line coach. Larry Johnson.
Then at the end of October, Sampson returned to Columbus for the Ohio-Penn State game. He then told Bucknuts how much he liked him.
“He was definitely lively,” Sampson said when asked about the Buckeyes’ 33-24 win over Penn State. Buckeye’s fan base is something special. The result was actually where I thought it would be.
“(Ohio State) is one of the best schools I’ve had. The whole time I’ve been in Columbus, I’ve never met a bad person.”
Then, in November, Sampson told Poknets that Ohio State would reduce the number of schools to five.
“I have one of the top ten,” Sampson said. “When I narrow it down again, Ohio will be there.”
So it came as no surprise when Sampson dropped his list of five schools he was planning to go ahead with when Ohio State was on the list. Sampson designated the Ohio, Clemson, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina schools as his five schools.
“I am thankful and grateful to every college coach and program that has recruited me so far,” Sampson wrote. “The trip, the process was real.”
Sampson has been in constant contact with Ohio State employees since his last visit to the Buckeyes family.
“Coach (Ryan) Day, coach (Larry) Johnson, Nick Sebastian, coach (Kevin) Wilson,” Sampson said. “Every day I talk to someone (from Ohio). I know for sure I will be back there. Every time I go up, everyone treats me like family. They always treat me and my family with great respect.”
The list of Sampson scholarship offers includes Ohio State, North Carolina. Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas A&M and many more. Talk about why Ohio is so high on his list.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Sampson is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports ratings. He’s the 144th potential player in the country, the 20th defensive lineman and the No. 2 potential player in North Carolina.
