Free Birthday Party at St Peter’s Catholic Church

Join vocalist JJ Kaelin, violinist Theresa Phillips, cellist Pam Chadon and pianist Robert Lamprich for the annual Christmas Eve Party at 7 p.m. Friday, December 10 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 55 Jefferson Street, Memorial.

Enjoy traditional, classic and contemporary holiday favourites, hymns, tinkers, long sings and more. This concert is free and open to the public.

The donations will benefit Tri-Lakes Cares, a community-supported resource center that provides critical resources in northern El Paso County through emergency, self-sustainment, and relief programs.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is seeking volunteers to help victims

The El Paso County Police Department’s Volunteer Victim Assistance Program is seeking highly motivated individuals to join its team. The program is made up of citizen volunteers who work alongside employees of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Volunteer Victim Advocates will help provide emotional support, short-term crisis intervention, community referrals, and resources to crime victims. Volunteers assist employee advocates to ensure coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the unincorporated areas of El Paso County.

“If you’ve ever thought about serving others, please consider joining our volunteer team,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

The 12-week training academy begins March 21, two nights per week, initially on Monday and Thursday evenings.

Hannah Hill, of Monument, recently started The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest and most selective college honor society in all disciplines. Hill started at the University of Montana.

Colorado Springs Law Firm Announces Scholarships

Heuser & Heuser Law Firm is accepting applications for scholarships of up to $3,000.

First place is $3,000, followed by $2,000 and $1,000 for second and third, respectively. Applications are submitted on February 25th.

Applicants are required to write an essay of no less than 1,000 words in which they apply their intelligence and best critical thinking skills to this problem: “How would you change or improve the education system in our country so that it serves as a model for the rest of the world?”

Applicants must be in high school in the Southern Colorado area who are planning to enter college, trade school, or the military.
