Plant Powered Metro New York (PPMNY) is giving back to the community once again, and Tuesday celebrates giving with an all-day live-streamed marathon on plant-based eating. The community-focused health empowerment organization will launch a Plantathon on November 30 to provide information, tricks, and advice to people in both New York and the country. The live broadcast aims to celebrate the importance of whole food, plant-based nutrition, and highlight the nutritional benefits of plant-based diets.
The community organization will feature a wide range of experts, celebrity guests, culinary educators and others who will provide insight into how plant-based food can be the key to many health problems, both mental and physical. Plantathon will highlight health testimonials, lifestyle tips and cooking demos to make eating vegan as accessible to viewers as possible. PPMNY intends to increase its reach during the live broadcast event.
“Planathon is an exciting exploration of the diverse and multidimensional field of whole foods and plant-based nutrition, while also calling for financial contributions for PPMNY’s work in this giving Tuesday and throughout December,” said Liana Levine Reisner, Director of PPMNY Network. “As a leading grassroots health empowerment organization serving our local multicultural communities, PPMNY educates and supports people in embracing plant-based nutrition for preventative health and transformative healing. We seek to popularize and accelerate both awareness and diet change at the community level.”
Along with Reisner, PPMNY’s Plantathon will be hosted by PPMNY network technology consultant Jim Spellos. The live marathon will be shown at 12:00 PM EST and will run until 7:00 PM EST. Interested viewers can watch the live broadcast via Facebook and Youtube. Viewers will be encouraged to make a gift or donation during the marathon to support healthy eating in communities in New York City and nationwide. Plantathon will also award select viewership prizes throughout the event.
The Plantathon will feature a variety of sounds and cuisines throughout the event, providing a nook for plant-based nutrition intended to reach all viewers and consumers. Interviews and live shows will feature leading vegan voices including Chef AJ, Leanne Campbell, David Dunaief, Michael Greger, Nelson Campbell, Dotsie Bausch, Brandy Cochrane, Carole Levy and more. From 2:00 PM EST to 3:00 PM EST, the live broadcast will be conducted in Spanish by PPMNY’s Latinx community organizer in an effort to expand the reach of the Plantathon.
Plantathon is cared for by many of the prominent names in the plant-based community. Event sponsors include California Balsamic, Lupii, Main Street Vegan, Plant Based TeleHealth, Aaya’s Table, Doctor Herbivore, FRESH Medicine, It’s Seasoned, Plantable, WellBean and Jovial.
PPMNY will also give select viewers a free scholarship to the eCornell Vegetarian Nutrition Certification Program, free 21-day Jumpstart enrollment for PPMNY vegan energy, new PPMNY cotton tote bags, True Made Foods seasoning, and new copies of starch solution By John McDougall, MD and study china by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D.
Viewers will be encouraged to make donations to PPMNY to help the community organization’s mission to aid the health and nutrition of individuals throughout New York City. Donations will be matched from the start of the Plantathon through the end of 2021 up to $25,000. Donations will help PPMNY teach people how to use plant-based nutrition to beat chronic disease and help make the most of it.
