(ANSAmed) – ISTANBUL, December 28 – An increasing number of Turkish students are choosing to study at Italian universities, but few Italian students are choosing to go to Turkey for their studies, according to a study titled “Turchia chiAMA Italia”.
The study is part of a project to strengthen academic relations between the two countries promoted by the Italian Embassy in Ankara. Professor Daniela Giannetto led the data collection in collaboration with the Turkish Supreme Council of Universities (YOK) and the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR).
Among foreign students who chose Italian universities, the proportion of arrivals from Turkey has more than doubled in the past five years: from 1.29% to 2.72%, with 940 students in the 2015-2016 academic year and 2,626 in the 2019-2020 academic year. for three-year coursework, individual sources, and master’s degrees.
Lombardy and Piedmont are the two main regions chosen by Turkish students enrolled in Italian universities.
Regarding the EU Erasmus Student Mobility Project, “There is a significant difference between the number of Turkish students who chose Italy (6,421 from 2014 to 2018) and the few Italians who chose Turkey (1,349 in the same period), the study found.
The study also indicated that “there were separate and continuous faculty, at different levels, from Italy (58 in 2018-2019), while there were few Turkish professors in Italian universities (13 total)”. (ANSAMED).
