Twin Cities university launches free tuition scholarship program

Twin Cities University is taking steps to make the dream of a college education more achievable.

North Central University in Minneapolis announced this week that it will launch a free scholarship program. The initiative can bring financial aid to hundreds of students.

In the upcoming academic year, North Central will offer full scholarships to low-income students. “We have been very innovative in trying to find ways to help realize the dreams and desires of our students, but this is something we are particularly pleased with,” said Dr. Tim Hager, Vice President of Business and Operations at North Central. .

The Minnesota Scholarship Trust Fund will apply to the 2022-2023 academic year. Dr Hager says the initiative will help pave the way to higher education for those who may feel it is out of reach. “We think this is going to really fill a gap,” said Dr. Hager.

Applicants must meet a number of requirements which include having at least a 3.25 GPA, and be an incoming new student who is a resident of Minnesota.

“The thing that we feel would be really helpful for students is that this really targets those families whose adjusted gross income is less than $60,000,” Dr. Hager said.

North Central University is located in downtown Minneapolis. It is a smaller private university with just over a thousand students.

“Initially we started as a Bible College to be able to take ministers to pulpits around Minnesota and around the world, and it has evolved over time,” said Dr. Hager.

From finance to pre-law, today the university offers a variety of degrees. And now a new path of financial support.

“We feel that the resources at North Central are able to expand so that there are a lot of stars out there, and students who haven’t quite realized their college education yet, will say ‘I need to get into this,’ it’s going to be a hand that will change the lives of hundreds of students.”

The scholarship covers tuition fees, not room and board. Students who have received funding for the academic year 20-22 23 must live on campus. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. For more information, click here.
