Vans Donates Computers to LA High School Students: Info – Footwear News

Vans continues its charitable efforts with a new donation for underserved high school students in Los Angeles.

The shoe company has partnered with the Los Angeles School of Global Studies and the nonprofit EduCare Foundation to donate Chromebooks to all of the foundation’s students.

On April 10, every student from grades nine through twelve received a free computer. A total of 320 Chromebooks were distributed. Vans distributed the laptops through a personal event attended by Steve Van Doren, son of Vans founder Paul Van Doren.

Alongside the Chromebooks, the students received handwritten letters of encouragement and support. In addition, carts of shoes and other goods were distributed to the students to take to their families.

Los Angeles School of Global Studies (LASGS) is a high school located in downtown Los Angeles that calls for an unconventional approach to teaching. The school’s educational approach to learning is based on “an environment that engages, culture that enables, results that matter, and technology that enables,” according to the school’s website.

On the donation, Christian Quintero, Principal of Los Angeles School of Global Studies, said in a statement: “Donations that go directly to the community are very important to our students. I am grateful that Vans, in collaboration with Educare, have been able to deliver technology to our students so that our school community can access the curriculum. .”

Vans’ latest donation comes after Vans donated $1 million to mental health charities in proceeds of the annual Chess Day. The label is also donating a grand prize of $50,000 to the winners of the Vans Custom Culture Art Competition Program. Online voting for the competition will begin on April 26 and the winner will be announced in May. $50,000 will go to the winner’s school art program.
