Warren “Jay” Hays, 74 | Free Press Standard

Warren “Jay” Hayes, 74, of Lordstown, died Monday evening, December 13, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Jay was born on June 8, 1947 in Canton, the son of Warren Edward and Dorothea Hayes.

He graduated in 1966 from Carrollton High School and served in the US Army as Chief of Staff of the 281st Delta Special Forces Attack Helicopter Company in Vietnam. Jay was very active in AHC’s #281 assemblies. After serving in the Army, Jay worked for General Motors Lordstown on a paint line. He retired from General Motors in 1995 and owns and operates Hays Enterprises, Inc. which he started in 1980. He was a member of North Mar Church, a member of the Silver Trowel Lodge of the Masons, and a former member of the Lordstown Lions club.

Gaye is survived by his ex-wife Doris DeLeon, whom he married on August 18, 1973; 4 children, JW Hayes from Alliance, James (Andrea Ackerman) Hayes from Whitehouse, Jason Hayes from Lordstown, and Dory (Brian) Lutz from Carmel, plus eight grandchildren.

Jay’s death was preceded by a daughter, Diana Hayes; his parents, Warren Edward and Dorothea Hayes; and her sister Dorothea Hartung.

The arrangements were entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
