Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, and the world’s richest man, whose fortune has grown by 924% during the Covid-19 pandemic, had some advice for students and young adults who want to succeed in life.
He was speaking on the “Lex Fridman Podcast” where he gave advice to students that included reading books, trying not to be a leader, and being helpful.
When asked what advice he wants to share for students at school or college who want to make it big and have a positive impact on the world, Elon Musk had five things to share.
Here are five tips from the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, for students and young adults:
1. Don’t try to be a leader
Elon Musk asked young people not to just want to be leaders in this way. He said something very important: “A lot of the time, the people you want as leaders are the people who don’t want to be leaders.”
2. Read books
Today’s generation is more comfortable reading things and getting information online, but reading books is important.
The richest man in the world encouraged students and young people to read a lot of books and absorb as much information as possible.
He also advised students to read and develop their general knowledge so that they know what is happening around the world and have a good idea of the ‘knowledge landscape’.
3. Contribute to society
To make a positive impact on society, you need to contribute to it. He said: One should contribute more than he consumes.
“Try to have a positive net contribution to society,” he told Friedman on the podcast. “This is something you should aim for.”
Elon Musk said that a person who does an “honest workday” is held in high regard by him.
4. Talk to people
The importance of talking to people can never be underestimated. The more you talk to different types of people from all over the world, the more open your mind will be to different viewpoints.
“Talk to people from different walks of life, from different industries, professions, and skills,” Elon Musk told Friedman.
He said, “Learn as much as you can.
5. Be helpful
The most important piece of advice he gave to students and young people was to “try to be useful”.
“Do things that are good for your fellow human beings, for the world,” the richest man in the world said on the podcast.
He added that this was a very difficult thing.
Musk said that a useful life is “a life worth living.”
